Tombs and Tear Gas: Archaeology during the Egyptian Revolution
In January of 2011, Egypt erupted into social unrest culminating in a revolution. The Arab Spring was a turning point in Egypt’s government, which not only deeply affected its people, but also the many scholars and researchers who were in the country at the time. Dr. Groff, as part of the Dakhleh Oasis Project, was conducting archaeological fieldwork when the protests and civil unrest began. In this presentation, Dr. Groff will share her firsthand account navigating the revolution, as well as provide practical tips for traveling and working in countries under conflict.
